Quinta do Foios is in the pleasant village of Vila Nogueira de Azeitao, near magnificent beaches, vineyards and historical sites. The village is at the edge of the beautiful Arrabida National Park which stretches all the way to the coastline and beautiful beaches. The Park was established to protect the beautiful landscape and rich variety of wildlife, including eagles, wildcats and badgers. Apart from Lisbon, 40km away, Setubal, Palmela and Sesimbra are easily reached, making the self-catering villa an ideal base for unforgettable daily excursions. |
Azeitao Winery Azeitão, where the house is situated, is a lovely village chosen by the nobility to build their Palaces and Quintas, due to its beauty, climate and abundant fishing and game. Some of these Palaces can still be visited today together with the various vineyards. There is much to do walking distance: restaurants and shops, visit the delights of Azeitão such as the wineries of José Maria da Fonseca. Sesimbra,a short drive away, is a quaint fishing town, famous for its castle, beach and beautiful sea front. Palmela has a towering very well preserved castle. Setubal has excellent fish restaurants by the sea front and a ferry to the nearby resort of Troia. Boat trips are organized to watch the dolphins living in the Sado estuary. | | Quinta do Foios is at the edge of the village, and the views at the back are of peaceful country side. The house is walking distance the center of the village of Vila Nogueira de Azeitão, where one can pursue many different activities, from wine tasting to cultural visits and beach days. | The quinta belongs to the family of the famous Jose Maria da Fonseca wines, who are in residence. They are both welcoming and discrete and will be sure to make your stay extra special. | Beaches 10km away is one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, ‘Portinho de Arrabida’. A sheltered cove of white sand and with pine trees as a backdrop, its quiet crystal clear waters are perfect for swimming and children, and are popular with divers for their colourful underwater life. Other sandy coves lie at the foot of the limestone cliffs. Praia da Figuerinha offers sport fishing, windsurfing, and sailing and has vast sand banks at low tide. Nautical sports For diving, the local beach has of the most interesting diving in Portugal with its grottos and abundant marine life. Sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and rowing can all be practiced in the safe bay. Golf. Gastronomy and wine tasting The region of Azeitão is famed for its gastronomy, and even the local supermarket, Intermarché, has a mix of gourmet and standard products; the supermarket is about 200m from the villa. The local gastronomic festival is held from June to September. Fresh grilled fish is an inexpensive delight. Five formal wine routes have been devised in the Setubal peninsula by the ‘Rota de Vinhos’ association, combining wine tasting with sightseeing, arts and nature. The villa is ideally situated on one of these wine routes. Arrabida National Park The mountains are ideal for walks, and organized excursions can be arranged with the local nature tour companies. In the National Park, mountain biking, fauna tours, and bird watching are organised. Orienteering, cycling tours, riding and aerial sports are available and provide new experiences for beginners and experienced alike. Golf Information Portugal is a paradise where the golfer can play almost every day of the year. Quinta Foios - Vila Nogueira de Azeitão - Surface area : 160 m2
The house is within the large grounds of Quinta do Foios, which are shared with the owners in residence. Passing the gates of Quinta dos Foios, you have lovely vines of sweet Moscatel wine on your right, grown by the family. On your left there is the most enormous barbecue which will provide the perfect setting for long summer nights outside. Furhter along the road you will find this most charming house, the perfect setting for your authentic Portuguese rural holiday. It is decorated with many original family pieces and great taste. Delight in the atmospheric pictures and imagine yourself in the porch, the dining room or by the lovely swimming pool! On the ground floor, the cosy living room with a working fireplace is a peaceful room for hours of relaxation. Just outside, in the summer a lovely decked area, shaded by plants, is set up with soft furniture. The dining room is so inviting with a china service display on the wall. The kitchen is in a traditional style and very functional. There is a small guest toilet room. At the back we find a twin bedroom and bathroom. On the first floor we find a lovely double bedroom with dressing area in one direction. To the other direction a bedroom with 3 single beds is located, as well a a single bedroom. A bathroom services this floor. The owners are also lovers of Italy and you will find in the house small treasures of italian origin. Beyond the house, you find the most elegant gardens, inspired by italian classical design. These are shared with the owners, as well as the most delightful swimming pool. The pool is based on a large tank, large with 5m*8m, and is surrouned by straw umbrellas, and garden furniture. There is a pool house with bathroom. | On the ground floor, the large living room with a working fireplace and seating and dining areas for 8 leads onto the garden through a large glass door; all the modern entertaining equipment is at hand, including a large flat screen Cable TV with international channels, DVD player, and wireless internet. There is ample secure prking in the grounds of the quinta. Cleaning once a week is included in the price. |
Getting there and around
2 hours flight from most European cities and 7 hours from New York, the Villa is reached by car from Lisbon Airport in 1 hour. Faro airport is 2.5 hours. A car is recommended to fully enjoy the many delights of the area. However many amenities and interesting visits can be done walking from the villa to Azeitão |
