18^th Century manor house built in the Romantic style, refurbished in 1994, and set in 4 hectares of gardens and meadows.  Vestiges of a mediaeval monastery, formal walks, a section of the aqueduct bringing water from the mountains to Setubal, and the stone channels irrigating the meadows and orchards fed by the well, now in ruins where a donkey turned the machinery which drew the water from below.

Beaches

10km away is one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, ‘Portinho de Arrabida’. A sheltered cove of white sand and with pine trees as a backdrop, its quiet crystal clear waters are perfect for swimming and children, and are popular with divers for their colourful underwater life. Other sandy coves lie at the foot of the limestone cliffs. Praia da Figuerinha offers sport fishing, windsurfing, and sailing and has vast sand banks at low tide.

Nautical sports

For diving, the local beach has of the most interesting diving in Portugal with its grottos and abundant marine life. Sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and rowing can all be practiced in the safe bay. Golf.

Gastronomy and wine tasting

The region of Azeitão is famed for its gastronomy, and even the local supermarket has a mix of gourmet and standard products. The local gastronomic festival is held from June to September. Fresh grilled fish is an inexpensive delight. Five formal wine routes have been devised in the Setubal peninsula by the ‘Rota de Vinhos’ association, combining wine tasting with sightseeing, arts and nature.

Arrabida National Park

The mountains are ideal for walks, and organized excursions can be arranged with the local nature tour companies.  In the National Park, mountain biking, fauna tours, and bird watching are organised. Orienteering, cycling tours, riding and aerial sports are available and provide new experiences for beginners and experienced alike.

Magnificent 18th Century manor house, set in 14 hectares of gardens, orchards and meadows, with vestiges of a mediaeval monastery, formal walks, a section of the aqueduct which supplied Setubal, and a ruined well where a donkey once turned the wheel which drew the water to irrigate the estate.  There are far reaching views from the main terrace of the tranquil valley the house shares with similar properties, from where a monumental staircase leads down to the pool and tennis court.

Casa Nobre can sleep 9 adults, 3 children and a baby, and has 3 double bedrooms, 1 triple bedroom, a child bedroom, 3 bathrooms, a kitchen, breakfast/dining room, a grand dining room and sitting room.

The glory of the house is the formal dining and sitting rooms.  The dining room for up to 18 faces south over the terrace with a large window and French door.  It is entirely painted in frescoes by a well-known decorative artist fifty years ago, depicting local scenes. The grand living room seat 18 comfortably and has french doors opening to the large front terrace; there is a backgammon table, satellite TV and DVD. A smaller dining room, with rural views over the terrace to the rear, is suitable for more intimate dining or breakfast, due to its proximity to the kitchen. 

There are two double bedrooms on the upper floor, both with twin beds one of which can become a double bed.  Facing south, they enjoy spectacular views – one to the sea.  They share a bathroom, with bath and shower, and separate toilet with bidet.  The private staircase descends at the back of the house to a garden floor and terrace with rural views.  Here are two further bedrooms (one bedroom is a twin and the other is a triple, with 1 bunk bed and 1 single bed), two bathrooms (one en suite, both with bath, shower, toilet and bidet), and a private seating area suitable for a cot or twin beds for children.

There is ample storage space and safe parking.
