Beautiful self catering villa to let on a short term basis close to Alcacer do Sal, 70km South of Lisbon, where the recently restored castle from the Moorish ruins is located on a promontory overlooking the peaceful valley of the River Sado which is to the southeast of Lisbon. The small town was an important site in Roman times for the culture of salt and there is a record of a fort existing as early as the 6th century BC. The area is well known for the multiple species of birds that can often be seen and for its many stork nests. The town of Alcácer do Sal is within convenient reach of Lisbon via the Motorway. We also recommend that you visit the Rice Museum at Comporta and the village of Torrão.
Just to the south is the town of Sines, which is known for its geographically important port. It has a beautiful well preserved small Castle overlooking the narrow streets of the pleasent old centre. It has several small beautiful sandy beaches usually with great panoramic views of the west coast. Also to the south is Santiago do Cacém, a lovely town full of character which should also be visited. To the north is Setúbal, known for its fantastic fresh fish. And of course 80km away is Lisbon, an easy day trip, reached in an hour via the motorway. |
Protected 1000 hectare estate The villa is in the beautiful complex of Herdade do Montalvo, this private estate is located in a preserved area, spanning across 1000 hectares. Herdade do Montalvo is a private condominium set up to receive international guests. The large peaceful estate borders the river Sado estuary for 600 meters. The whole estate has beautiful cycle paths and is fantastic walking territory; it has its own lake easily accessible from the villa. For lovers of nature, there are observation posts to watch the many animals about. | Location map | Beaches Comporta beach is situated in the limits of the wonderful Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, which allows the region to preserve all its astonishing natural beauty. Comporta combines the charm of its dunes, the extensive pine tree area and the refreshing ocean.
With a quite extensive sandy area, the beach provides good conditions for surfing and kite surfing alike. comporta beach is the longest sandy beach in the whole of Europe. It has well deserved fame. Parking facilites are good, and being so large it is never too crowded. As well as this the beach offers good amenities.
There are other sandy beaches nearby. Water sports Sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and rowing can all be practiced in the safe bay of the Sado estuary, and as previously mentioned surfing and kite surfing are practiced at Comporta beach. Reservoir There is a large reservoir in the estate, were you can swim or boat, and where caoeing and other non-motorised sports are practiced. Tennis Tennis courts inside the condominium can be used by guests (small fee applies). Gastronomy and wine tasting The region is famed for its gastronomy, with its fresh grilled fish being an inexpensive delight. Five formal wine routes have been devised in the Setubal peninsula by the ‘Rota de Vinhos’ association, combining wine tasting with sightseeing, arts and nature.

Villa do Sobreiro - Herdade de Montalvo - Surface area : 350 m2
Very large modern family villa located in the Natural Reserve of the river Sado in Herdade de Montalvo. The private condominium spans 1,000 hectares and has many villas and 24 hour security. The beautiful estate has many cycle paths and borders the Sado river for 600 meters. It is a beautifully protected area. On the ground floor of the villa we find the huge living area with two large sofas and seating for 18; the dining area can comfortably seat 16. A cosy fireplace will warm colder winter days. The main modern kitchen is spacious and well equipped, and has a separate breakfast area. The living room opens out onto the terrace which also has outdoor furniture; from there you can access the pool area and garden. We also find on the ground floor the master bedroom, which has a large double bed, and bathroom with bath, sink, bidet and lavatory; the twin bedroom next to a large bathroom; another double bedroom is accessed from the hall, with its shower room; a second smaller kitchen which has a hob, sink and fridge freezer. This kitchen is linked to the second living/dining area which has a TV and two double sofa beds, as well as a dining table for four. On the first floor we find 3 loft style bedrooms and another living room; there are 2 large bedrooms with 4 beds each and one bedroom with 2 single beds. There are 2 shower rooms on this floor. The large loft style living room doubles up as bedroom with its double sofa-bed and 2 single sofa-beds (the sofa-beds can be distributed differently on this floor).
There is plenty of storage space throughout the house. In front of the main living room, the large terrace has outdoor furniture and is a lovely setting for outdoor meals. Past the terrace of the self-catering Villa near Comporta, the large 10m*5m swimming pool is located. Sun loungers are provided. Getting there and around
2 hours flight from most European cities and 7 hours from New York, the Villa is reached by car from Lisbon airport in one 1 hour. Faro airport is 2 hours away. A car is recommended to fully enjoy the many delights of the area. There is a small supermarket on the estate. For bigger shopping trips the town of Alcacer is nearby. |
