Evora, UNESCO site 'Monte das Fontes' is situated 25 km from Evora, one of the most interesting and beautiful cities of Central Alentejo. The lively and historical city of Evora is protected by UNESCO World Heritage since 1986. Evora has a rich History and Architecture and hosts many cultural events as well as musical festivals. The Alentejo cuisine and wines can be savoured at one of the many delicious Evora restaurants. The border with Spain is only 90km and of course Lisbon and its delights is easily reached. And yet Monte das Fontes feels miles away from the hussle and bussle of a European capital; this is one of its main attractions! | | Monte das Fontes means "the hill of the sources". The beautifully clean and private fresh water lake is natural and provides an ideal setting for many refreshing breaks. Delicious meals can be prepared in the barbecue or spacious kitchen and enjoyed in the outside shaded patio or dining room. Every season or time of the day brings its wonders and different activities at 'Monte das Fontes': early morning or midnight swims, long walks, bike paths, horse riding, hunting, fishing, mushroom picking, bird watching... and in the winter evenings, roasting chestnuts by the giant fire place! The hot summer months are enjoyed in the coolness of the house, with a refreshing swim in the lake, or with a book in the shaded areas of the garden. | Twice weekly cleaning is provided. On request daily maid service can be provided, food groceries can be ordered daily, and meals can be prepared for your enjoyment with delicious local produce (additional payment). Baby-sitting can also be arranged on request. | Bathing The beautiful country house offers private beach access to its own private lake. Part of the lake is laid out with a wooden deck; there is a pontoon for boat access. A rowing boat and swimming toys are at your disposal. Water sports Alentejo has a lot of water, due to its many lakes. Therefore, if you like water sports, Alentejo is heaven. The many reservoirs with plenty of good access points to the water are excellent for Winsurfing and sailing. Motor water sports such as jet and water-skiing can be enjoyed at "Barragem da Vigia" and "Alqueva". Activities Horse riding, shooting, trekking, bird watching, wine tasting, special guided tours and other activities can be organized for our guests. Ballooning in Portugal began in Alentejo: it was chosen as the most suitable region due to the vast plains that are suitable for take off and landing. Waking up in the night to jump into a wicker basket lifted by a balloon into the Alentejo sky is an extraordinary experience as the first rays of the sun light up the plain: miles and miles of land, as far as the eye can see, are filled with brushstrokes of colour. | The house, allthough modern, is built in the traditional style and therefore very well insulated. Heating in winter and portable air-conditioning in the summer provide additional year round comfort. The bedrooms are extremely spacious and the bathrooms are modern and fully equipped. The large fully equipped kitchen provides all that is required for cooking delicious meals. Note: The house is extremely private, located in a 500he estate and accessed by a private rural 6Km drive . This drive is also used by the estate workers in their daily tasks, therefore it is not always in perfect conditions, mostly during Winter and Spring time.

Getting there and around
Two hours flight from most European cities and seven from New York, the beautiful holiday villa is reached by car from Lisbon Airport in 1 hour and 30 minutes. A car is essential for this holiday as there is no public transport to the house. The hamlet of Freixo is 5km away, and offers a supermarket and genuine small restaurants. Further afield the village of Redondo 15k away offers more serious entertainment and shopping, whilst Evora is 25km away. A beach day out to the wonderful area of Comporta is well worth it. Lisbon, with its culture and monuments, is 1.5 hours away. The perfect place to relax in luxury and get away from it all! |
