Local Magoito Beach | Location
Located by Magoito large and beautiful beach, the house affords spectacular views of the coast and surrounding area. The area is part of the Sintra-Cascais National Park, where building is restricted and nature protected, with countryside stretching in all directions. The beach of Magoito is 10 minutes by foot or 2 minutes by car. The local village of Magoito is 1km away with its shops and restaurants. |
Sintra, 15km away, is unique and deserves its status as a world heritage site. First the Moors, then the Portuguese kings who expelled them, built their castles and palaces there. Later ages brought rich foreigners who created villas and palaces with lush gardens and romantic architecture - outdone by king Don Fernando, whose bizarre palace anticipated mad King Ludwig's Rhine castles by several years.
The location is ideal for exploring not just Sintra but central Portugal. Lisbon is 40 minutes by car, and Cascais and Estoril are 30 minutes away. Famous Ericeira beach is close by. Further afield: in easy day trips from Sintra, you can visit the walled city of Obidos, the Knights' templar castle of Tomar, and Batalha Abbey, the monastery palace of Mafra, the seaside town of Sesimbra, Ericeira, Palmela castle and Arrabida national park. | | Gastronomy and wine tasting
Sintra is famed for its 'queijadas' and local wines from Colares. Local restaurants are both good and inexpensive. Wineries can be visited in person or as part of an organised tour. The owner of the villa also owns the local beach restaurant and cafe Duna Mar 300m away. She will prepare delicious dishes to savour at the restaurant or will deliver them at the villa. Casa do Mar : 400 m2
This large house is built on the top of the cliffs at Magoito whose sandy beach stretches at its feet and enjoys a beautiful panorama of undeveloped coastline to the horizon. The views to the rear are of unspoilt countryside. The house is very roomy and lends itself to large group or family holidays. On the ground floor are the living and dining rooms, kitchen, bathroom, garage and a large terrace with a small swimming pool; beyond is a private lawned garden and open countryside. The house not only has a barbecue, but a charming wood burning oven (to complement the conventional cooker in the kitchen) for delicious, simple and healthy meals. | The first floor comprises four spacious bedrooms, all with verandahs and plenty of storage space, and a bathroom. And on the top floor, only available to bookings of more than eight, are two very large rooms with a shared bathroom, which can each comfortably sleep four people. The pretty swimming pool has a lovely sea view and a perfect exposure, getting the sun most of the day; the pool is relatively small which means the water is very pleasantly warm! Beyond the pool we find the lawned garden ,again with splendid views; this is an ideal spot for children's games or simply to relax and read a book!

Getting there and around
The villa is reached from Lisbon airport in 40 minutes. It is fairly close to fast roads making it a good base to explore the area.
Although there is an hourly bus to Sintra, we reccomend a car to make the most of exploring the area.
