Beautifully restored villa with authentic pieces and materials, set in a 4 hectares private property to which guests have exclusive use. Casa dos Arcos is located in the Parque Nacional da Serra da Arrabida, 5 Km away from beautiful beaches and close to Vila Nogueira de Azeitao- a small historic town sorrounded by the national park and well known for its vineyards and wine cellars open to the public. Arrabida beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, and boasts a natural bay with calm waters, ideal for swimming and snorkeling. the area is also famous for its food so it won't be difficult to find high quality well priced local restaurants as well as top quality ones. Taste the delights of the region from the traditional cheese, deemed to be one of the best in the country, to the Torta de Azeitao, a much sought after local pastry, and the famous Moscatel wine, a sweet wine served as an aperitif. The local speciality is of course a great variety of fresh fish dishes. Apart from Lisbon, 30km away, Azeitão, Setubal, Palmela and Sesimbra are easily reached, making the self-catering villa an ideal base for unforgettable daily excursions. Your host, a well known local architect, will give you advice on the best places in the area if asked! The luxurious self-catering villa is situated in the national park of Arrabida, established to protect the beautiful landscape and rich variety of wild life, including eagles, wildcats and badgers. The sorrounding mountains are the perfect place to go for a walk, and excursions can be organised with the local nature tour companies. The villa is 2km from the small delightfull historic town of Vila Nogueira de Azeitao, which is known for its vineyards and wine cellars; the town is a perfect place to try out the local cuisine and get shopping. | | Sesimbra,a short drive away, is a quaint fishing town, famous for its castle, beach and beautiful sea front. Palmela has a towering very well preserved castle. Setubal has excellent fish restaurants by the sea front and a ferry to the nearby resort of Troia. Boat trips are organized to watch the dolphins living in the Sado estuary. The local white sandy beaches are as close as 5 Km and the Arrabida beach is known to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal. With its calm waters, its ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The outdoor swimming pool is for private use of guests and stands 150m away from the house in its beautifully landscaped gardens. | The villa is heated in winter and the beautiful fireplace provides additional comfort and atmosphere. | Beaches The villa is surrounded by many sandy beaches, all with different characteristics. The magnificent bay of Portinho de Arrabida, with its clear quiet waters, it is ideal for watersports. Sesimbra, Caparica, Meco and Troia beaches are all easily accessible. Golf Information Quinta do Peru just 10 Kms from the villa, Tróia (10 kms and a ferry away) a difficult course but one of the most beautiful in Portugal, and Riba Golf (40 Kms away) Gastronomy and wine tasting The region of Azeitão is famed for its gastronomy, and even the local supermarket, Intermarché, has a mix of gourmet and standard products; the supermarket is about 3km from the villa. The local gastronomic festival is held from June to September. Fresh grilled fish is an inexpensive delight. Five formal wine routes have been devised in the Setubal peninsula by the ‘Rota de Vinhos’ association, combining wine tasting with sightseeing, arts and nature. Casa dos Arcos - Indoor Surface Area : 300 m2
Lovingly restored by its owner and ready for occupancy in July 2009, Casa dos Arcos will delight appreciators of fine restoration, nature, privacy and peace. The total refurbishement was finished in July 2009, using original materials and pieces from the owner's antique shop, with exquisite taste and attention to detail. The house has retained much of its original character but now has modern day comforts added. Everything is brand new for 2009, and our first guests will inaugurate this magnificent renovation in July! Whilst the exterior is green and lush, inserted in the Arrabida natural park, the interior is beautifully cool, natural air conditioning being provided by the villa's thick original walls and shaded patios around the house. "Casa dos Arcos" means "house of the arches"; an inspired name, many of the terraces have pretty roman arches. Many antique and rustic pieces are found amongst modern comfortable furniture, and some unique pieces are for sale. The house is decorated in neutral colours, which enhances the beautiful pieces and the lushness of the gardens. Very chic and welcoming for a truly unforgettable luxurious holiday! The house is entered via an original outside staircase leading to the spacious entrance hall where the communal rooms lead from. On this floor the large well proportioned sitting room overlooks a large patio area with a stunning green views of the gardens and the Arrabida mountains beyond. The covered patio is ideal for outdoor meals or reading a book in absolute silence. Further along we find the separate formal dining room, again with direct outside access. The brand new modern kitchen is very spacious and fully equipped, also with access to another covered patio area; from the kitchen a pantry area is also found. On this floor there is also a guest toilet room. Satellite wide screen TV with international channels, internet access, and stereo system enhance your enjoyment. | On the upper floor, there are 4 spacious bedrooms, two with double beds and two with twin beds. Two of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and two share the other bathroom. On this floor, there is an additional storage room with window, that can double up as a smaller sixth bedroom if needed (6m2). On the garden floor, the fifth bedroom is located, self-contained with its en-suite bathroom; this bedroom has direct access to its private terrace and the garden ; it is only made available for parties of more than 8 people or by special request. All the 5 main bedrooms are very spacious and have generous storage space. They are all extremely quiet and have pretty leafy views over the gardens.
Along a private path surrounded by a beautifully landscaped garden the swimming pool with its own patio area are situated 150m from the house; the pool house has with WC, shower and storage space. This is an ideal place to enjoy nature, bird watching and for long walks in unspoiled surroundings, all in close proximity to spectacular beaches. The only noise you will hear is that of nature and your party! Included in the price is the gardening, pool maintenance and twice weekly cleaning. By prior arrangement the house caretaker can shop, cook delicious meals and provide additonal cleaning. A truly indulgent and luxuriou holiday with personalised service! |
Getting there and around
Two hours flight from most European cities and seven from New York, the villa is reached by car from Lisbon Airport in 45 minutes. Faro airport is 2 hours away. The motorway junction is 6km away. The local pretty village of Vila Nogueira de Azeitão is 2km away and has shops and supermarkets (even a "intermarché") for your daily requirements. There is a tourist bureau here and many points of interest. A car is essential for this holiday as there is no public transport to the Villa. |
